The traditional art of Wayang kulit

Commonly referred to as shadow puppetry, the traditional art form is known as Wayang Kulit in Bali and is believed to date back to the 8th or 9th century. Often depicting stories from Hindu epics like Ramayana and Mahabharata, these leather puppet shows are a significant part of Balinese culture. While Ubud is a popular spot for travelers to witness Wayang Kulit performances, for the Balinese, these events are integral to their regular life. Villages commonly host Wayang Kulit during religious celebrations and festivals
